Expert360 (Formerly LPS) and KiwiRail entered into an agreement in 2016 for LPS to supply it’s innovative and ground-breaking Project Management Office service (Collaborative PMO) to help manage and facilitate the effective governance, delivery and execution of IT projects and programmes for the KiwiRail organisation.

The essence of this service rests on Expert360's collective decades of experience in the planning and delivery of projects and PMO services, leveraging the best of our PMO tools, templates, and our shared collective knowledge within Expert360 with KiwiRail.

At KiwiRail, we helped the business transition away from a fairly large number of project staff and an environment where the CIO could not easily see timelines, costs, risks, execution to plan, or benefits realisation.

We introduced our unique tools, processes, and highly skilled people (PM’s, BA’s, PMO Managers, and finance staff) that quickly got to work to lower the cost of delivery significantly (an approximate cost reduction of a third), and provide insights and reporting to the CIO as to how his group was tracking to plan and budget.  

It was a speedy and very successful transformation. Projects began to deliver due to the support and oversight of Collaborative PMO. Costs came under control. Project aligned to strategy. Throughput sped up. Risks and ‘surprises’ dropped off.

Respect for IT delivery grew stronger in the KiwiRail broader business once the impact of our Collaborative PMO was felt.  

Overall, cost to deliver significantly dropped. Throughput and delivery increased. This left a happy CIO and an empowered business on the back of strong reliable IT project delivery.
