What security clearance do I need to apply for federal government/defence opportunities?
All candidates must have an existing AGSVA (Australian Government Security Vetting Agency) clearance.
What types of organisations will I be working with?
Opportunities are available with federal government departments/agencies and Tier-1 defence partners.
What kind of projects will I work on?
Projects range from Protected to Top Secret initiatives. Many roles are not publicly disclosed due to their national importance and clearance requirements.
How long does it take to get a security clearance?
Once you have a sponsor, AGSVA aims to finalise assessments within these timeframes:
Baseline – 20 business days Negative Vetting 1 – 70 business days Negative Vetting 2 – 100 business days Positive Vetting – 180 business days
Can I sponsor my own security clearance?
No. All security clearances must be sponsored by a government or business entity. Individuals cannot sponsor their own clearance.
What are the different security clearance levels?
There are 4 main levels:
Baseline – permits ongoing access to classified resources up to and including Protected Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) – permits ongoing access up to and including Secret, and temporary access to Top Secret in certain circumstances Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) – permits ongoing access up to and including Top Secret Positive Vetting (PV) – permits ongoing access up to and including Top Secret, including some caveated resources Top Secret-Privileged Access (TS-PA) – will eventually replace Positive Vetting and is managed by ASIO's TS-PA Vetting Authority
