From its humble beginnings in the late 19th century, the consulting industry has grown to one of the most mature sectors in the professional services industry, generating between $100 billion to $300 billion in revenues. The move is driven by the recognition among corporate executives that their interests may be best served by tapping firms with specialised experience in niche markets, then requiring companies to work together for the client.
