Going solo does not mean going it alone

One month into the new year and the stage is set for companies to ramp-up efforts in the race for top-talent. PwC’s most recent CEO Survey says the availability of key skills is one of the top 5 challenges for 2019. Forbes predict we will see ‘Temp’ and ‘Alumni’ Labour Clouds becoming increasingly mainstream, as companies strive to retain their best talent. Last year, the Australia Institute’s Centre for Future Work reported that for the first time, over half of Australia’s working population are in non-permanent roles. As the Freelancer population continues to grow in size, Companies and innovators are increasingly turning their eye to the ‘Freelance experience’.

Companies are rethinking what it looks and feels like for a consultant or contractor when they work with their company, from the moment they are interviewed and on-boarded, right through to how that Company keeps them engaged once they’ve finished the project. The business sector and society are also rethinking how they can better serve the Freelancer as a Customer. The freelance experience is now just as important as the traditional employee experience.

If Expert360 are to truly make working for yourself work, we know we have an important role to play here. We hear everyday the challenges freelancers face when embarking on, and throughout, the freelance journey. Perhaps the greatest friction rises from simply no longer receiving the traditional monthly paycheck from one employer. This can often become a sticking point when it comes to accessing financial products such as personal loans, credit cards or mortgages, and obligations like superannuation become unclear when your employer doesn’t take care of this for you.

In December 2018, we launched partnerships with some of Australia‘s most innovative financial institutions to help improve the financial well-being of our Expert community. We want to drive change in our financial and insurance industry to better serve the needs of freelancers, be it through tailored products for non-permanent workers or education to improve personal cash management.

We are excited to launch our Freelancer Financial Wellbeing educational series, led by Macquarie Bank & Future Super. Quarterly, you’ll now receive tailored financial insights, expertise, market updates and tools directly to your inbox to help you no matter where you are on your financial wellbeing journey. Stay tuned for more information on our first exclusive event in this series hosted at Expert360 HQ, coming in March 2019.
